SENS Breath: Let’s Flute

Sens Academy × Winning Heights

SENS BreathLet's Flute

One breath. One melody. Many hearts.

A simple bamboo flute, a room full of people, and the oldest music in the world: breath. Guided step by step, a group finds its first notes, then its first melody, together.

Hindustani flute included · yours to keep 45 minutes to several weeks Ideal group: 20 to 40

Why the flute

The oldest music in the world is made of breath

People were carving flutes from bone long before history was written down: some found by archaeologists are more than 35,000 years old. In India, the bamboo bansuri is the flute of Krishna, and its sound runs through our stories, films and festivals. To play it, you simply shape your breath. Long, slow breaths become long, singing notes, and as the melody settles, so do you.

01

No experience needed

We begin with how to hold the flute and find the first note, and guide every step from there.

02

Your own bansuri to keep

Every participant receives a Hindustani flute, to take home and keep playing.

03

Calm in every breath

The flute rewards slow, steady out-breaths, so a few minutes of playing feels like a few minutes of calm.

04

Great fun that bonds groups

A room full of first notes, a lot of laughter, and then one melody played together. People bond fast when they learn side by side.

For corporates, colleges and clubs alike, it is team building with a soul: everyone listening, everyone breathing, one melody rising from the room.

The benefits

Why learn the flute together?

For you

  • Calm and steady. Long, even out-breaths help the body settle and the mind slow down.
  • Breath awareness. Holding a note teaches you to notice and pace your own breathing.
  • Present in the moment. While you listen for the note, the to-do list goes quiet.
  • An instrument for life. Light, portable and endlessly expressive; it goes wherever you go.

For your group

  • Listening, not talking. Playing together means everyone has to listen to everyone else.
  • Patience, shared. Cheering each other's first clear note builds trust faster than any icebreaker.
  • Everyone starts equal. The leader and the newest joiner both begin with the very first note.
  • One melody, many breaths. Different people, one sound: the simplest picture of a team that works.

Flute & Sen-Tai-Chi

Breath is the bridge

In Sen-Tai-Chi, Dr. Senek D'Souza's rhythmic blend of Tai Chi, Kung Fu and music, every movement follows the breath. The flute turns that breath into melody, and that is how we bring the two together.

  1. Learn to playParticipants are taught to send long, steady breaths through their own flute.
  2. Play togetherThe group plays as one, matching the same breath and the same rhythm.
  3. Move with the breathThat rhythm carries into gentle Sen-Tai-Chi flows: gather on the in-breath, release on the out-breath.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Do participants need any musical experience?

None at all. We start from how to hold the flute and how to shape the breath, and guide the whole group step by step.

Is the bansuri difficult to start?

The first clear note takes a little patience, and that is part of the fun. We show each person how to shape their breath, and stay with the group until everyone has found their notes.

Are the flutes provided?

Yes. Every participant receives their own Hindustani flute and keeps it after the session.

What is the ideal group size?

Between 20 and 40 people, so that everyone gets personal attention. Tell us your numbers when you enquire.

Where do you run the workshops?

At your venue, whether an office, hotel, club, campus, community hall or home, anywhere in India.

How long is a session?

Anything from a 45-minute taster to a 3-day immersion, or a weekly group course over several weeks. See the formats above, or ask us to tailor one.

Can it be combined with Sen-Tai-Chi?

Yes. Participants first learn to play, then carry the same breathing rhythm into gentle Sen-Tai-Chi movement. The full-day Breath & Melody Retreat brings both together.

How much does it cost?

Pricing is on request, as it depends on the format, group size and location. Message or call us for a quote.

Can I learn the flute on my own?

Yes. Sens Academy teaches the Hindustani flute one-to-one at three levels, at our academy in Mangalore or online. Level 1 takes just 12 sessions.
